Finding Solutions
The Undaunted Carnival Foundation has teamed up with Seva Mandir to address this burgeoning crisis. We have committed to fund Youth Resource Centers in Rajasthan for the next three years to address the root problems of poverty and HIV. Each center will have a range of activities including health education, computer skills acquisition, job training and social support. This environment is unique in India, where the elders receive much of the respect and therefore, many of the resources.
Seva Mandir is coordinating all of the activity, and it will evaluate the effectiveness of the programs. At the end of three years, local governments will take responsibility for funding the Youth Resource Centers, and the anticipated number of centers to be built will reach over forty. Each center will become self-sufficient and supported by its local community. Early evaluation efforts have demonstrated that the health education classes offered in the centers are effective in teaching adolescents about HIV prevention. We are confident that with continued support, this project will continue to grow and develop.
